I would truly love to love this game but the controls are just too fiddly, especially when you have to complete a section within a certain time. I find myself retrying over and over and sometimes succeeding just by sheer luck. Sometimes I felt quite pleased with myself for finding a solution to a puzzle and then one twitch in the wrong direction and I've died and am back almost to the beginning of the puzzle. In the end I spent a lot of time feeling punished rather than rewarded. Nonetheless it is a lovely looking game.. Love the game!Really beautiful art style and a unique idea.If you like puzzle games or just want to see something new, you have to try it.Two small suggestions. The movement when playing with keyboard could be better if you didn't need to press 2 keys most of the time when walking around. Rotating the movement 45 degrees should be OK, but maybe that was tested when developing it. It feels like to many steps to select and placing tools when playing with mouse and keyboard. Maybe drag and drop from the side of the screen or a shortcut key to select it.. My failure to recommend this game applies only if you use a mouse and keyboard. I played 9 hours and was so frustrated trying to learn how to move having to hold 2 keys down at a time (W,A,S,D) that I was ready to give up. Then the devs added an alternate keyboard patch that made diagonal movements available with only 1 key. This helped, but i still had too much difficulty using W,A,S,D for movement. The game is overly picky about exactly where objects are placed, and at times it is difficult moving and placing the geometric objects. Things kind of snap into place rather than go where you place them. It became more of an arcade game for me rather than the geometric puzzle game I expected. Precise timing, movement, and accuracy were required, and for me, that was a big negative. So I spent a LOT of time dying and having to monotonously rebuild and retry puzzle scenes. Add that to the fact that there is no SAVE option other than to go back and repeat many annoying and time consuming puzzles again and again if you quit before getting to a save point. Finally, I am giving up, and won't be playing any more without an appropriate save option added. On the positive side, the artwork and storyline were great! Very innovative and interesting. Unfortunately, this didn't overcome the problems I enumerated above. If you play with an 8 position controller, I'm recommending the game, in spite of the other issues mentioned. You will have less problems with movement and the arcade type gameplay, but the save issue remains. I'm disappointed, as I'd love to progress further and see what happens with the story and the artwork in the game. But there is only so much time and effort I can devote, and this has started to be more work than fun. So, I'm giving this 3 stars out of 5. Without the issues I mentioned, I would probably give the game 5 stars for being so innovative artistically. And even with 3 stars, I cannot recommend it for mouse/keyboard players.I hope I'm not being overly harsh, as I really wanted to love this game....but I just can't based on what's missing for me.. It could have been a great game if not for the automatic save. If you did not finish a chapter you will have to restart it every time you restart the game. Very annoying. Why there is not a manual save ?. If you are a fan of puzzle game, pick up this gem. If you never tried a puzzle game, pick up this gem. Art style combined with the very nice ambient music makes for a very relaxing puzzle time. Do not worry, there will be more colors then blue and white. The puzzles are diffent enough to keep things interesting, some based on stacking, some of balance, some with added physics, some for pushing and pulling. Im not yet done with the game, but I am sure I will be pleasently suprised as the game plays out. Someone worte "bad voice acting". My take on that is "the guy drawing draws, thats where his expertice is, not voice acting his unnamed hero". Nice artwork and art style. I wanted to love it, but there are a couple of problems that I really can't get past. 1. Player momentum-platformingThis game wants to be a platformer, but the momentum of the PC is infuriating. I had absolutely no confidence that I could put the player where I wanted to on screen. Making small movements is very difficult. Some physics decisions are difficult to understand. I walked into a bridge I had placed and instead of stepping up on top of it, the character kicked it off the ledge and then walked off the ledge to its death.2. Interface and optionsThis game is obviously meant to be played with a controller, and the keyboard/mouse combination is kind of an add-on. The game uses a ring interface to select one of 6 tools, and the mouse selection is not really usable because very small movements of the mouse will change the tool selection, so it's difficult to get the tool you want with any kind of reliability. There are few control options, so rather than being able to assign keys to each of the 6 tools, e.g., 1-6, or qazwsx or something like that. Also, the view is isometric, so walking in a primary, cardinal direction requires two keys to be held, and it would be nice if up were bound to top-right, so that only one key would be needed. If that were at least an option, I'd love it.But! The game looks really nice, and I love the style.. Recommended for a quiet evening at home :). This is really beautiful game unlike any other! I just reached second world (dark mines) and puzzles are getting harder but that's exactly what I want from a puzzle game. All that plus breathe taking musical score with really exciting story... Well done, Somnium Games, well done!
